Brian Perry Civil is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team working on the Cook Strait Interislander Ferries – Wellington Port Infrastructure Early Works. This is a complex marine and port construction package where the role plays a key part in driving commercial performance, forecast accuracy, and financial control.

The position is based in Wellington and suits someone who can combine strong commercial judgement with practical project delivery support. You will work on the contractor side, partnering with project and discipline teams to strengthen forecasting, reporting, variation control, and wider commercial governance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Take ownership of the project cost forecast in RIB/CCS Candy and keep the estimate-to-complete position accurate across all workstreams.
  • Drive the monthly forecasting cycle by combining inputs from discipline leads and project teams.
  • Manage budget movement both upstream and downstream in a proactive way.
  • Use an ERP platform such as Oracle or SAP to maintain cost control, reporting accuracy, and financial transparency.
  • Prepare and issue monthly commercial and cost reports.
  • Support or lead procurement and subcontract administration tasks when needed.
  • Coach and assist the quantity surveying team to build capability in forecasting, reporting, and cost control.

What You Need

We are seeking a commercially strong Senior QS with extensive experience handling budgets, forecasts, and cost management on large-scale construction projects. The right person will be collaborative, professional, and comfortable influencing across multiple teams.

  • Substantial contractor-side experience, generally around 10+ years in a commercial or quantity surveying role, preferably in civil or infrastructure work.
  • A track record of managing a major project forecast at senior level.
  • Strong capability with cost forecasting tools and project controls such as Candy, SAP, or Oracle.
  • Proven ability to manage variations on both the upstream and downstream sides.
  • Experience gathering and aligning information from several teams to produce reliable monthly forecasts and reporting.
  • Good working knowledge of commercial reporting, cost management, and financial governance.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring or developing other QS team members.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence project stakeholders.
  • A strong commitment to respectful, inclusive teamwork and relationship-building across the project.
