Job description
About Z
Z is driven by a mission to power better journeys now and in the future. As one of New Zealand’s major transport energy businesses, it is focused on providing transport energy that is safe, dependable and secure, while also developing new energy options for a changing environment.
The company is the New Zealand arm of Ampol, an independent trans-Tasman energy organisation with offices around the world. Together, the group uses its reach, scale and expertise to support customers, communities and employees.
About the Finance Team
The Finance Operations function includes Accounts Payable, Credit, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, and Financial Risk/Treasury support. The team manages the movement of funds into and out of Z. Within this group, the Credit team looks after assessing the credit standing of new and existing customers, processing daily receipts, and carrying out collection actions on overdue accounts.
About the Role
This newly established position sits within the Credit & Accounts Receivable team and operates in a senior capacity alongside customers and the Team Lead. The role is suited to someone who can apply strong credit expertise and commercial judgement in a busy, changing environment across a wide range of Z customers.
If you are looking to bring credit and risk experience into a commercial setting and join a driven, passionate team, this could be a great fit.
Key Accountabilities
- Analyse financial information and credit risk in detail to evaluate opportunities and provide well-reasoned credit advice.
- Draft and present high-quality credit papers, risk assessments, and portfolio reviews to inform decisions.
- Track and manage current credit exposure, spot emerging risks, and suggest ways to reduce them.
- Work with the Head of Department to ensure credit activities remain compliant while also supporting business expansion.
- Review the Credit Policy, update it where needed, and recommend improvements.
- Prepare monthly and occasional reporting for the credit function and support month-end credit-related finance processes.
- Use commercial insight to work with current and prospective clients.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven credit experience with a strong emphasis on risk assessment and a solid grasp of credit risk fundamentals.
- Broad financial understanding, including the ability to interpret financial statements and make informed recommendations.
- Experience working in complex commercial environments, supported by strong business judgement.
- Good awareness of the economic environment and the ability to recognise early risk signals.
- A commitment to improving processes and driving continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across stakeholders, support the team, facilitate meetings, and speak directly with clients.
Values and Culture
Success in this role also depends on living Z’s values and contributing to its wider purpose for Aotearoa New Zealand.
Z encourages applicants even if they do not meet every single requirement. The company values diversity, inclusion, and authenticity, and wants people who are excited about the opportunity even if their experience is not a perfect match.
What Z Offers
- A competitive pay package that includes a short-term incentive plan, medical insurance, and an increased employer KiwiSaver contribution.
- Generous leave options, including sick leave, wellbeing leave, parental leave benefits, and the option to purchase additional leave.
- A balanced hybrid working arrangement, with time split between home and the office.
- Access to a benefits and recognition platform with retail discounts and cashback at more than 150 retailers across Aotearoa New Zealand.
- The chance to work in a supportive team focused on making a meaningful difference.
- Opportunities to learn from experienced industry professionals, access upskilling, and build a career across the organisation.
- Two paid days each year to take part in the company’s volunteering initiative and support your community.
Remuneration
The base salary range for this role is NZD 95,300 to NZD 112,150 per year. Z also provides a 5% employer KiwiSaver contribution.
Application Notes
A cover letter is required and should explain why you are a strong fit for Z. Applications close on Sunday 28 June 2026, and shortlisting may start as applications come in. The company may close the advertisement early if needed.
Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Why Z
