Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Automation Test Engineer based in Wellington to play a key role in elevating our quality assurance capabilities. This position focuses on maintaining, optimising, and scaling existing automation frameworks and continuous deployment pipelines to improve testing effectiveness and efficiency. The engineer will work within a modern technology environment, advocating best practices, designing reusable solutions, and supporting enterprise-level software delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance reliable automated test frameworks to boost productivity and test coverage.
- Manage and improve existing user interface (UI) and application programming interface (API) automation test suites using Java, Selenium, and Karate.
- Collaborate with software developers to integrate automated testing workflows within GitHub Actions continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Create reusable automation modules that ensure test scripts are maintainable, scalable, and resilient.
- Research and introduce new tools and methodologies to continuously enhance product quality.
- Analyze product requirements to design and document automated test cases ensuring complete traceability to specifications.
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive commercial experience in developing and supporting UI automation frameworks primarily based on Java and Selenium.
- Strong proficiency in API automation testing, with expertise in Karate or comparable tools.
- Hands-on experience implementing and refining automation workflows within GitHub Actions CI/CD systems.
- In-depth understanding of test planning strategies, design patterns, and automation framework setup.
- Excellent communication and cooperative skills to advocate for code quality, testability, and best practices alongside developers.
- Proven capability to automate intricate testing scenarios, including data validation and analytics reporting.

- This is a contract role based in Wellington, extending through June 2027.

Education and Eligibility
The position requires a bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience as an Automation Test Engineer.
