Role overview
This position is for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist with 6 to 8 years of experience in automobile or EV manufacturing. The role focuses on keeping manufacturing operations safe, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, strengthening workplace safety culture, and continuously improving EHS performance.
Health & Safety management
- Put EHS policies, procedures, and safety standards into practice across manufacturing operations, and ensure they are followed.
- Carry out hazard identification and risk assessments, job safety analyses, and routine safety inspections.
- Verify adherence to internal safety expectations as well as applicable statutory rules.
- Promote behavior-based safety initiatives and awareness programs to build a stronger safety culture.
Incident investigation & risk reduction
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe situations to identify what went wrong.
- Perform root cause analysis and follow through on corrective and preventive actions.
- Track the closure of safety observations and audit non-conformities until resolved.
Statutory & regulatory compliance
- Maintain compliance with the Factories Act, occupational safety requirements, environmental laws, and other applicable standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
- Keep statutory registers, licenses, permits, and compliance records up to date.
Emergency preparedness & fire safety
- Create and run emergency response plans and mock drills.
- Oversee fire protection systems, emergency tools, and evacuation readiness.
- Work with emergency response teams and safety committees to improve preparedness.
Contractor & construction safety
- Administer contractor safety requirements and verify compliance on site.
- Supervise high-risk work such as hot work, work at height, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety tasks.
- Review permits and confirm that maintenance and project work is completed safely.
Manufacturing & EV safety
- Ensure safe machine operation, electrical safety, and secure material handling within production areas.
- Support safety controls for battery manufacturing, battery testing, battery storage, and handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Contribute to safety improvements linked to automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing systems.
Training & management systems
- Deliver EHS inductions and recurring safety training sessions.
- Support the rollout and upkeep of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Monitor EHS KPIs and prepare reports for management review.
Required background
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, or a related field. A Diploma or PG Diploma in Industrial Safety is preferred. The role requires 6 to 8 years of EHS experience in automobile or EV manufacturing.
Preferred industry exposure
Experience in two-wheeler, four-wheeler, auto component, battery manufacturing, or EV manufacturing plants is preferred, especially in high-volume production environments.
