Job description

About Deep Piction

Deep Piction is a pioneering biotechnology firm located in Munich specializing in cutting-edge tissue clearing, 3D imaging, spatial biology, and AI technologies that aid in expediting drug discovery and therapeutic innovation. Their work integrates whole-organ and whole-body imaging at single-cell resolution alongside quantitative image analysis, spatial molecular profiling, and artificial intelligence. These technologies support internal drug development projects and collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotech partners.

Role Overview

This hands-on scientific position focuses on driving and enabling projects to develop, standardize, and expand workflows related to tissue clearing, light-sheet microscopy, and quantitative image analysis. The candidate will manage tissue-clearing and 3D imaging assignments, collaborate closely with experimental, computational, and commercial teams, and transform complex biological specimens into robust quantitative data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead tissue clearing and 3D imaging projects supporting internal research and external partnerships.
  • Design and perform whole-organ and whole-body tissue clearing, staining, imaging, and analytical protocols.
  • Operate and enhance light-sheet microscopy processes and infrastructure.
  • Assist in quantitative image analysis, visualization, atlas alignment, and biological data interpretation.
  • Collaborate with AI specialists to create scalable image-analysis pipelines and automation solutions.
  • Refine protocols, quality control measures, documentation, reproducibility, and throughput capabilities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects involving experimental, imaging, AI, and therapeutic development teams.
  • Train and mentor junior researchers and technical personnel.
  • Participate in authoring scientific reports, presentations, publications, patents, and technology development activities.
  • Optionally assist with animal study planning and compliances.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's or PhD in life sciences, biomedical engineering, optical physics, neuroscience, bioengineering, or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience in tissue clearing, fluorescence microscopy, 3D histology, or whole-mount imaging techniques.
  • Practical expertise in light-sheet microscopy and large-volume biological image acquisition.
  • Familiarity with Imaris and/or arivis Vision4D software.
  • Knowledge of BigStitcher or similar tools for data stitching and processing of large datasets.
  • Competence in atlas registration, cell detection, segmentation, and quantitative analysis of cleared tissue samples.
  • Strong independent planning, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation skills for complex experiments.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and collaborations simultaneously.
  • Fluent in scientific English with effective communication skills across experimental and computational teams.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience with Fiji/ImageJ, Python-based image processing, napari visualization, automation, or batch processing pipelines.
  • Background in machine learning or deep learning for image analysis.
  • Expertise in whole-organ or whole-body imaging datasets.
  • Knowledge of antibody labeling, whole-mount immunostaining, tissue expansion, or spatial molecular profiling.
  • Experience with quality assurance, protocol standardization, or working in biotech/pharmaceutical environments.
  • FELASA B certification, animal study coordination, or regulatory documentation experience.
  • Use of VR-based annotation or 3D proofreading tools.
  • Supervision of students, technicians, or junior researchers.

Employment Details and Benefits

  • Access to advanced technologies in tissue clearing, whole-body imaging, and AI.
  • Work with unique 3D cellular-resolution datasets spanning various therapeutic areas.
  • Direct involvement in pharmaceutical collaborations and internal drug development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across biology, imaging, AI, data science, and business development.
  • Opportunity to influence and scale pivotal scientific workflows in a growing biotech company.
  • Dynamic, international, and interdisciplinary work environment based in Munich.
  • Full-time, onsite role with competitive salary reflecting experience and qualifications.
  • Flexible starting date, ideally as soon as possible.

Application Guidelines

  • Submit a singular PDF file combining your CV, a cover letter, and a detailed summary of relevant experience in tissue clearing, light-sheet microscopy, 3D image analysis, and project management.
  • Do not send additional supporting documents (certificates, references, letters, publications) at this initial stage.
  • Your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the vacancy is filled.
