Job description

Role overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is looking for a Scheduler/Booking Clerk to support Dermatology services across the Health Board. This post focuses on keeping outpatient clinics running smoothly by managing appointments, helping to make the best use of clinic time, and supporting telephone booking activity.

The role requires a solid working understanding of Dermatology outpatient clinics, clinic protocols, and booking processes. You will handle appointment making, amendments and cancellations, deal with GP and patient enquiries, and use the Myrddin Patient Administration System, including direct and partial booking workflows.

Key duties

You will answer and make telephone calls, deal with general enquiries, arrange appointments in line with the Partial Booking Policy, monitor waiting lists and cancellations, and coordinate how clinic slots are used to improve efficiency.

This is a multi-skilled position that involves supporting telephone booking clerks, overseeing clinic utilisation, and applying clinic-specific standards correctly and consistently.

Skills and working style

The post calls for strong organisation, the ability to prioritise effectively, and confidence working in a busy administrative environment. You must communicate clearly and professionally, maintain a friendly telephone manner, and handle sensitive information with discretion.

The organisation’s long-term direction is shaped by the Gwent Strategy 2025–2035, which aims to build a fairer and healthier future through prevention, reducing health inequalities, and stronger partnership working. The Health Board promotes an inclusive and supportive environment based on the values of Kindness, Integrity, and Respect.

Staff are supported through learning and development opportunities, flexible working where possible, and a comprehensive NHS benefits package.

Additional information

Applications are welcomed from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates, and from members of the Armed Forces Community. Candidates may apply in Welsh, and Welsh-language applications will be treated no less favourably than English-language applications.

If you need any adjustments to take part in the recruitment process, you are encouraged to contact the recruiting manager named in the advert. You do not need to share personal or medical details unless you choose to; simply explain what support would help you participate fully. Alternative formats such as large print or braille can be requested through the recruiting manager or by contacting the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.

If you are shortlisted, communication will be sent to the email address used in your application, so it should be checked regularly. Successful candidates will also receive their conditional offer and information pack by email. The employer may close the vacancy early, and the role can also be withdrawn if filled through internal redeployment. Flexible working is supported where possible.

The site is smoke-free by law, and smoking is not allowed anywhere on Health Board premises for staff, contractors, patients, or visitors. Support to stop smoking is available through the Help Me Quit Team.

The salary scale for Band 3 has been adjusted under the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and is due to be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.
