Role overview
Canon is looking for a Resident Engineer to deliver practical, cost-conscious maintenance support and help keep hardware performing at a high standard. The role also covers firmware upkeep, product software updates, and support for product-related applications through Canon’s remote assistance tools.
What you will do
- Handle first-level troubleshooting for standalone and connected products within the assigned portfolio, focusing on identifying the root cause of issues.
- Work toward a strong first-time fix rate while keeping repeat visits low and using labour and parts as efficiently as possible.
- Record labour usage, parts consumption, and counter readings through the CAESAR coding structure.
- Support inventory control by managing stock levels and rotation, while balancing the need for return-to-fit visits.
- Spot commercial opportunities and pass them to the sales and marketing teams through OnSite-InSight.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the team and overall service delivery.
- Take time to understand customer needs and support the service approach within the broader solution business strategy.
- Communicate customer issues to the relevant account manager and follow up appropriately.
- Identify super-users and provide training on Canon products, installed software, printer drivers, and relevant features.
- Look for ways to expand the client relationship into other business areas and coordinate with the account manager.
Required qualifications and strengths
- An engineering degree or diploma in electronics, mechanics, or software.
- Prior experience in the service industry.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and the ability to follow them properly.
- Strong technical ability with solid fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Good customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to guide and instruct customers clearly.
- A team-oriented approach with a focus on improving group performance.
- Commercial awareness and sound business judgment.
- Professional conduct that reflects Canon’s brand in behaviour, communication, presentation, and appearance.
- A valid GCC driving licence.
- The ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Creative thinking and a willingness to solve problems in new ways.
