Job description
Role Overview
The National University of Singapore is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences unit at the Kent Ridge Campus. The position sits under the Science faculty and supports research staff activities in a laboratory-based project led by A/Prof Ee Pui Lai Rachel.
The work focuses on the design and development of stable peptide-based drugs and biomaterials for next-generation antimicrobial therapies, with the aim of addressing multidrug resistance through a project on multifunctional peptide nanonets as novel antimicrobial agents.
Key Duties
- Carry out microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, and cell-based experiments, including bacterial culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, and Western blotting.
- Review experimental outcomes and communicate findings in a structured, concise way, with an understanding of how the data informs drug discovery efforts.
- Assist with everyday laboratory operations, including housekeeping, procurement, safety inspections, SOP preparation, and other documentation, compliance, and administrative tasks.
Qualifications
This role is open to candidates with a degree or postgraduate qualification in biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, or a closely related field.
No prior work experience is needed for this position.
Skills and Attributes
- Ability to plan and execute experiments in cellular biology and biomaterials research.
- Hands-on experience with tissue sample handling and confocal microscopy.
- Strong attention to detail, along with analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with careful and accurate record keeping.
