Based in Grantham, this full-time on-site General Operative role supports the recycling and treatment of small domestic appliances and refrigeration units. The job involves sorting, taking apart, and preparing electronic waste and fridges for onward recycling or safe disposal, while working in line with health, safety, and environmental standards. The role helps support the company’s wider sustainability and waste reduction goals.
Core duties
- Separate incoming materials such as televisions, computers, mobile phones, fridges, and similar electronic items so they are routed into the correct recycling process.
- Carefully dismantle electronic equipment, including refrigeration units, and remove parts such as cables, circuit boards, batteries, and refrigerants for proper treatment.
- Use shredding, baling, and related processing equipment safely and efficiently to support high recycling output.
- Check and evaluate incoming SDA items and fridges to make sure they meet recycling standards and internal requirements.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental rules, especially those linked to refrigeration units, and escalate any hazards or equipment problems without delay.
- Work with colleagues and supervisors to help achieve daily production goals and keep operations running smoothly.
- Keep the workspace tidy, organised, and free from hazards.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties connected to the role, provided you are trained and qualified to do them.
Experience and skills
Previous work in recycling or waste management is preferred. A good understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements in recycling is important. You should be willing and able to learn machine operation, pay close attention to detail, follow safety procedures carefully, and handle physically demanding tasks such as lifting and moving equipment.
