Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Production Support Engineer to join a well-known and expanding agricultural equipment manufacturer based in South Canterbury, New Zealand. This position starts as a temporary contract with the potential to become a permanent and stable role within a rapidly growing company. The role centers on taking accountability for product construction by introducing order, uniformity, and clarity to production workflows. This is a practical role focused on optimizing operations on the manufacturing floor rather than research or theoretical design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and enhance current product lines to achieve consistent, production-ready standards.
  • Provide technical and procedural support to production teams.
  • Evaluate and refine engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and workflows.
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Ensure product designs and related processes are tailored for manufacturability.
  • Identify and address inefficiencies, waste, and failure points within production systems.
  • Optimize jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Analyze production metrics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with production personnel to make sure improvements are feasible and embraced.

Criteria for Success

  • Development of clear, accurate, and practical SOPs.
  • Enhanced uniformity and reproducibility in manufacturing outputs.
  • Minimization of rework, downtime, and defects.
  • Strong cooperation and alignment between engineering and production teams.
  • Implementation of a methodical, well-documented system that grows company intellectual property.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is presently engaged in a production or manufacturing engineering function and has strong confidence in rapidly assessing operational improvements. Candidates should possess:

  • A relevant engineering degree such as Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Materials and Process Engineering.
  • Experience in supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling tools, engineering software, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • A hands-on, pragmatic approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • A keen technical curiosity and determination to fully understand mechanisms and workflows.

Benefits

  • A competitive compensation rate based on experience.
  • Significant ownership and influence over manufacturing processes.
  • Engaging variety and challenges across diverse product lines.
  • An opportunity to effect meaningful, visible improvements within a collaborative team.
  • Potential for a secure, long-term career in a flourishing company.
