Job description
About the Company
Notion is a collaborative AI workspace built to help teams and agents think and work together. It brings knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools into one connected place so work becomes quicker, clearer, and less scattered. The platform is used by millions of individuals, small teams, and large enterprises.
Employees at Notion are expected to be customer zero for the future of work the company is building. The culture emphasizes craftsmanship, durable products, and the idea that meaningful work remains deeply human. Rather than focusing on simply launching features, teams aim to define the standard for how people collaborate in the AI era. The product mission spans everything from operating systems of record for businesses to building and managing AI agents and removing repetitive work.
About the Role
This Product Designer role is centered on creating thoughtful software experiences with a timeless feel. The team is looking for someone with strong product judgment, UX instincts, technical understanding, refined taste, and a commitment to detailed execution. The work is comparable to shaping how computing should feel for people encountering it for the first time, with an emphasis on clarity, delight, and lasting quality.
The position can be based in San Francisco or New York City. The company works from the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, which are the designated anchor days, and candidates should be comfortable collaborating in person on those days.
Key Responsibilities
- Create product ideas that successfully balance long-term vision, design quality, speed of execution, and commercial value.
- Develop new product experiences from early concept through UX design and final pixel-level polish.
- Own initiatives from start to finish in partnership with engineering and carry them through launch.
- Work closely with Customer Experience, Sales, and Customer Success to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of different customer groups, then use those insights to help shape priorities and roadmap decisions.
- Collaborate with Marketing on storytelling across the full user journey, including the website, product, help content, and other communication channels.
- Design practical, intuitive, and scalable patterns while evolving the design system with intention as the product grows.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience and the ability to independently lead projects from end to end.
- Strong ability to uncover customer needs and advocate for the best user experience to solve them.
- Comfort with ambiguous conceptual problems and the judgment to choose accessible mental models and flows that help users get value quickly.
- Capability to create clear, easy-to-use, and visually strong human-centered interfaces.
- Awareness of business impact, tradeoffs, and practical constraints, with the ability to balance polish, speed, and commercial goals.
- A collaborative mindset with strong opinions held lightly, openness to feedback, and the ability to synthesize input from many stakeholders.
- Skill in combining words and visuals to communicate ideas and build alignment.
- Experience working across project management, engineering, research, data, and other design partners.
- Interest in AI as a working tool and a curiosity-driven approach to experimentation and discovery.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing and building strong products with small teams.
- A perspective that adds diversity of thought, background, or experience to the team.
- Firsthand understanding of the frustration caused by fragmented tools and information silos.
- Familiarity with influential computing thinkers such as Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and Bret Victor.
- Ability to code as part of the design process.
Compensation
For San Francisco-based candidates, the estimated base salary range is $205,000 to $300,000 per year. Total compensation may also include equity and benefits, and the final offer will depend on factors such as location, scope of the role, and the candidate’s experience and expertise.
Additional Information
By submitting an application, candidates agree to the collection and processing of their information in line with the company’s global recruiting privacy policy and applicable New York labor requirements.
The company expects employees to be curious about AI, willing to experiment, and interested in using it as a collaborator in day-to-day work. While not every role requires deep AI specialization, AI fluency may be a formal requirement for some positions when stated explicitly.
The company is an equal opportunity employer and encourages candidates to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification. It does not discriminate on the basis of legally protected characteristics and considers qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records where permitted by law.
Reasonable accommodations are available during the hiring process for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans. Candidates who need support during the application process should inform the recruiter.
