Job description

About the Role

Canada Post is seeking a Postmaster to lead operations in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This role involves being a community leader and the primary representative of the Post Office. You will be responsible for promoting and selling postal products and services, supervising staff, and ensuring excellent customer service within a dynamic environment. The Postmaster reports to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Engage with the local community regarding Canada Post services and offerings.
  • Actively promote and sell postal products and services to both individuals and businesses.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the post office to meet established retail hours and delivery schedules.
  • Manage postal revenue, assets, and financial values accurately.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of postal staff.
  • Support the efficient management of mail delivery routes.

Qualifications

  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, with experience in business administration being advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and directing teams.
  • Proven ability to interact with the public in a retail or service capacity, including handling sales and cash transactions.
  • Familiarity with the regulations, methods, and procedures for mail processing and postal service delivery.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting mail containers up to 50 lb, moving boxes, sorting mail, and standing for extended periods.

Additional Information

  • Priority consideration for transfer requests will be given to employees who are members of CPAA, with preference to those within the posted Area of Competition.
  • Term employees with continuous employment in CPAA may also apply as per the Collective Agreement.
  • The hours of service to the public will be set by Canada Post and are subject to change based on operational needs.
