Role overview
This position is for a seasoned HR leader to create and run the people function for a large remote mining operation. The role is based in Brisbane, Australia and includes regular travel to Papua New Guinea. It focuses on making sure the workforce is planned, recruited, mobilised, supported, and developed so the operation is ready to perform now and sustain long-term results.
What you will do
- Build workforce plans that match operational needs.
- Direct hiring, onboarding, mobilisation, and deployment of employees.
- Handle employee and industrial relations matters, including employment contracts, grievances, and people policies.
- Maintain compliance with labour laws, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Set up and deliver performance management, employee development, and leadership training initiatives.
- Manage compensation, benefits, payroll information, and workforce reporting.
- Design HR systems, dashboards, and governance processes.
- Work closely with operations, community, security, and government stakeholders to achieve workforce goals.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 10 years of HR experience, ideally in mining, oil and gas, construction, or other remote work environments.
- Solid expertise in workforce mobilisation, industrial relations, and HR compliance.
- Prior experience creating or leading HR functions in demanding operational settings.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving abilities.
- A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a closely related field.
- Experience in Papua New Guinea or a similar jurisdiction would be an advantage.
Location and travel
The role is based in Brisbane, Australia, with regular travel required to Papua New Guinea.
