Job description

Company Overview

Fairmont is hiring for its Banff Springs property, located in one of Western Canada’s most scenic mountain destinations. The setting combines hospitality, outdoor recreation, arts, entertainment, and family-friendly community life, offering a strong balance between work and lifestyle.

Role Summary

This opportunity is suited to someone looking to begin or build a career in food and beverage operations while supporting housekeeping, sanitation, recycling, and transport tasks overnight. The position is based on a night schedule and includes responsibilities in both kitchen stewardship and van driving duties. The usual shift for the overnight kitchen cleaner portion is approximately 10:30 pm to 7:00 am.

The employer notes a starting wage of $21.20 per hour. Compensation increases with tenure after six months and then annually through three years; by the three-year mark, the pay rate reaches $25.61 per hour. A mix of seasonal and some full-time openings are available, with details to be discussed during the interview.

Kitchen Cleaning Responsibilities

In the overnight kitchen cleaner function, the role focuses on deep cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen environment after service.

  • Carry out thorough overnight cleaning of major kitchen equipment and hard-to-reach surfaces, such as ovens, grills, fryers, hoods, walls, ceilings, and vents.
  • Keep prep stations, sinks, stainless-steel surfaces, and flooring clean and hygienic by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and buffing as needed.
  • Maintain a safe workspace by keeping floors dry and clear, handling garbage, oil, and recycling properly, and responding quickly to any safety risks.
  • Track cleaning products and equipment, replenish supplies when necessary, and alert supervisors to repair or maintenance concerns.
  • Complete other assigned deep-cleaning work to support kitchen sanitation and operational standards.

Van Driver, Sanitation, and Recycling Responsibilities

As part of the transport and recycling function, the role also includes moving supplies and supporting waste management across multiple hotel locations.

  • Move and deliver food, beverages, equipment, and supplies safely between loading docks, hotel areas, and off-site locations including Waldhaus, the Clubhouse, Bowling Centre, Convention Centre, Exshaw, and Banff dump sites.
  • Assist departments with special deliveries and large-item transfers while maintaining prompt service and effective communication to support guest satisfaction.
  • Keep vehicles and loading areas in good condition by completing daily inspections, reporting damage or issues, and ensuring the work areas remain tidy and organized.
  • Oversee waste and recycling processes by collecting, sorting, and disposing of general waste, organics, and recyclables according to hotel procedures and Town of Banff requirements.
  • Follow Fairmont standards for grooming, hygiene, food safety, and cultural respect; report maintenance or safety issues; take part in health and safety activities; complete daily deep-cleaning tasks; and share operational needs with management.

Qualifications

The employer is looking for someone who can work independently, stay organized, and keep standards high in a busy overnight environment.

Additional Job Details

Both roles require comfort working with industrial equipment. For the kitchen-cleaning duties, the candidate must be able to handle industrial machinery. For the van-driving and sanitation duties, the candidate must be able to use equipment such as a cardboard baler, manual pallet jack, hydraulic lift gates, and vehicle lifts safely.

A Class 5 driver’s licence is required, along with confidence operating a 3-ton truck and navigating tight loading bays. A current driver’s abstract must be provided before the first day of work. WHMIS certification is also required.

The employer is seeking a person who is proactive, organized, committed to a clean and safe workplace, capable of working alone or with a team, and able to manage priorities effectively in a fast-moving setting.

Benefits and Perks

Full-time employees may receive on-site subsidized staff accommodation. Staff also get one complimentary meal per shift in the employee cafeteria, with extra meals available for $8 each.

A defined contribution pension plan with employer matching of up to 5% of annual earnings is also offered to permanent full-time staff.

Additional benefits include an employee travel program with discounted room rates and food and beverage savings at Fairmont and Accor properties worldwide, access to the Mountain Explorer Travel Program with exclusive room rates and 50% off food and beverage at Fairmont resorts in Lake Louise, Jasper, and Whistler, and discounts at the resort’s food and beverage outlets, fitness centre, spa, and Fairmont Banff Springs golf courses.
