Job description

Role overview

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced Orthotist who is caring, proactive, and adaptable to join its Orthotic Rehabilitation Team. The position calls for strong clinical knowledge, enthusiasm, and a patient-focused approach to help deliver effective, high-quality care.

The service supports both inpatient and outpatient orthotic care for the Central Lancashire population, while also providing regional tertiary services across Lancashire and South Cumbria. In this role, you will work across a variety of multidisciplinary clinics at both local and regional level, supporting patients with conditions such as Talipes, Stroke, Diabetes, and Adult Neurology.

The department operates across multiple specialities, including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Diabetes, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Neurorehabilitation. The team manages complex cases across the full breadth of orthotics practice and has a strong reputation for safe, effective, person-centred care.

This is a great time to join the Orthotics Department within SMRC and LTHTR, as the service remains focused on ongoing improvement and regular review of care pathways to achieve the best outcomes for patients.

Applicants who are motivated, forward-thinking, and committed to making a meaningful difference are encouraged to apply.

Key duties

The post holder will carry out comprehensive and holistic assessments with the multidisciplinary team to create personalised care plans and prescribe orthotic solutions, including for complex clinical needs. Advanced clinical judgement will be used to plan and deliver interventions that support patient goals and align with best practice.

You will provide clinical, scientific, and advisory orthotic services that contribute to recovery, rehabilitation, and improved function across diabetes and vascular care, adult and paediatric neurology, musculoskeletal conditions, spinal orthoses, and upper and lower limb presentations in patients of all ages.

The role also involves carrying out detailed clinical examinations, assessing orthotic requirements, and ensuring evidence-based evaluations are fully documented to support clinical decision-making.

Accurate and timely record keeping on Trust-approved systems is required, along with compliance with HCPC and BAPO standards, Trust policies, and national guidance to ensure safe, effective, and auditable care.

You will also contribute to service improvement, governance, and quality initiatives through audit, research, complex case discussion, training, and meetings, helping to strengthen patient experience and clinical outcomes across SMRC and LTHTR.
