Key duties

  • Carry out daily cleaning and basic upkeep to maintain acceptable standards of hygiene across assigned YW spaces.
  • Help ensure all areas remain safe and meet required safety standards.
  • Watch for spaces or equipment that need attention and inform a supervisor promptly.
  • Report hazards, unsafe practices, and incidents right away in line with YW incident reporting procedures and legislative requirements such as occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation rules.
  • Use PPE, safety tools, equipment, and materials correctly to complete work safely.
  • Operate and care for janitorial equipment properly.
  • Take part in YW meetings when needed.
  • Join training, learning, and certification opportunities as required.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, equitable, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Support safe and welcoming physical and psychological spaces through accountability, advocacy, and mentorship.

Working conditions

The job involves frequent physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, rotating, and walking, along with long periods of standing and repeated motions.

What the employer offers

  • Work that supports meaningful, positive impact in the community.
  • A cooperative team atmosphere with room for professional growth.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including an employee assistance plan.
  • Paid time off for eligible positions, prorated from the start date, including 3 weeks of vacation, 6 personal days, 12 sick days, and a paid birthday day off.

What you need to bring

The ideal candidate has a strong customer service mindset, works well with others, communicates clearly in English, and can adapt quickly in a changing environment. Experience with cleaning equipment such as carpet cleaners, floor scrubbers, Kaivac machines, and vacuums is important, along with a solid understanding of the safe use of cleaning chemicals and products. Computer literacy and confidence using Microsoft 360 applications are also required. First Aid training must be completed within 3 to 6 months of starting, or the applicant must already have valid certification. Current WHMIS certification is also required.
