Role Overview
The Medical Records Processing Specialist is responsible for handling medical record requests accurately and on time. This position supports the organization’s operations by working through a high volume of requests while protecting sensitive health information and following HIPAA rules. The work directly contributes to the timely release of records to the appropriate recipients, helping improve patient care and information access.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle medical record requests in a busy, high-volume environment.
- Work under the direction of the Processing Manager.
- Support overflow processing when request volume spikes or coverage is limited.
- Follow HIPAA requirements to safeguard protected health information.
- Keep a steady processing cadence by completing assigned requests within 24 to 48 hours of receipt.
- Share updates on request volume and any potential concerns.
- Track incoming requests from multiple intake channels.
- Carry out general administrative and office-related tasks as needed.
