About the role

You’ll join Bloom Engineering, a Wabtec company focused on improving the environmental performance of industrial heating systems, especially for the aluminum and steel sectors. Role overview

The Manufacturing Laborer contributes to the production of custom, engineer-to-order combustion systems by carrying out practical work across refractory forming, assembly, finishing, and shipping. The position calls for precision, compliance with engineering requirements, and a strong focus on safety and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix refractory compounds according to specifications and safety rules.
  • Set up molds, pour materials, and help ensure even distribution and structural strength.
  • Track curing progress and handle components carefully so product integrity is preserved.
  • Check work for defects and quality issues.
  • Clean and maintain molds and related equipment.
  • Assemble combustion system parts based on engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to align, fit, and fasten components.
  • Confirm that dimensions and tolerances match the required standards.
  • Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning, sanding, and masking as needed.
  • Apply paint and coatings to meet engineering and customer requirements.
  • Ensure curing and finish standards are achieved.
  • Pack finished goods for shipment, including weighing, crating, labeling, and completing paperwork.
  • Check order completeness and prepare necessary documents.
  • Build shipping crates to specification.
  • Use material-handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks when required.
  • Work with logistics teams to support accurate and timely deliveries.
  • Follow safety procedures and use all required personal protective equipment.
  • Carry out in-process and final quality inspections.
  • Report defects, safety concerns, and equipment problems.
  • Keep the work area tidy and well organized.

Requirements

  • Completed certified apprenticeship relevant to the work.
  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial labor.
  • Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Strong eye for detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and collaborate with a team.
  • Mechanical aptitude and sound problem-solving ability.
  • Physical ability to lift and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliable work style and strong work ethic.

Work environment

This is an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, dust, and noise. PPE is mandatory. The job involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
