Job description

Role overview

Wabtec Digital Mine is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Leader to help set a new global benchmark in mining technology through dependable, innovative solutions. The team supports mining customers with software, analytics, models, and systems such as collision avoidance, underground MWD and communications, all aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and safety.

This position sits within the Digital Mine organisation and reports to the Global Operations Director, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Senior Engineering Director. The role is a cross-functional reliability and manufacturing specialist responsible for connecting engineering, operations, data, and organisational context so that products, systems, and processes remain safe, consistent, and effective across their full lifecycle.

The role takes a system-level view of reliability, looking at technology, people, processes, and data together rather than in isolation. It works closely with engineering, operations, product, quality, and lifecycle teams to shift the organisation from reactive responses toward predictive, preventative, and proactive reliability practices.

Location

The position is based in Brisbane, Queensland, with the workplace listed as Eagle Farm, Queensland, Australia.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of production performance and field reliability from end to end, ensuring products are practical to manufacture, efficient to run, and resilient in real operating conditions.
  • Convert product designs into safe, repeatable manufacturing methods, including standard operating procedures, tooling, equipment choices, and automation balance.
  • Increase productivity by removing constraints, improving line layouts, shortening cycle times, and cutting waste.
  • Lead structured problem-solving on the shop floor, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Strengthen quality within the process by setting key parameters, applying in-process controls, using statistical process control, and maintaining control plans.
  • Support the reliability of equipment and tooling, including setup, changeovers, and improvements to fixtures and jigs.
  • Manage and verify process changes, trials, and production ramp-ups.
  • Represent production by capturing manufacturability concerns and operator feedback for the wider business.
  • Track field performance using return materials, telemetry, and site feedback to identify issues early.
  • Investigate reliability problems across design, manufacturing, installation, environment, and software factors.
  • Review reliability data to spot failure trends, environmental causes, and usage patterns.
  • Improve installation quality by setting standards, training teams, and sharing best practices.
  • Work across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and product groups to drive improvements.
  • Carry out field investigations and confirm issues through testing and direct observation.
  • Document and communicate findings clearly to support ongoing product and process improvement.

What we are looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Postgraduate study in Engineering, Asset Management, Systems Engineering, Reliability, or Asset Management is highly relevant.
  • AS3800 qualification is required/preferred as stated in the source.
  • More than 10 years of experience in cross-functional leadership roles.
  • Experience in defining reliability strategy, governance, and standards.
  • Ability to coach, influence, and work effectively with senior leaders.
  • Strong technical reliability expertise combined with systems thinking and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to support sustainable performance across the asset lifecycle.

Benefits and perks

  • Rewards and recognition program.
  • Discounted health insurance through Medibank.
  • Novated leasing options.
  • Discounts with Woolworths, Coles, Avis, JB Hi-Fi, and more than 500 other retailers.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program.
