Job description

Overview

The Manager of Research Compliance and Training plays a vital role in guiding and supervising the University's research compliance efforts while facilitating training on institutional research policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the formulation of departmental strategy and annual operational plans.
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of departmental policies aligning with institutional objectives and promoting best practices.
  • Assist in budget development and management with timely reporting to handle any discrepancies.
  • Lead and monitor the compliance functions, including research conflict of interest, animal welfare, export controls, and human subject protections.
  • Develop training materials for the Office of Research Operations, aimed at supporting directors, managers, and staff.
  • Coordinate with government entities such as SEHA and DOH to meet regulatory requirements and stay updated on regulatory changes.
  • Deliver training sessions, conferences, and workshops to faculty and staff to ensure awareness and adherence to research integrity and compliance standards.
  • Manage compliance committees, serving as an ex-officio or regular member when needed.
  • Advise on policy development and procedural implementations to ensure research compliance goals are fulfilled.
  • Prepare summary reports highlighting compliance issues, areas of concern, action recommendations, and levels of needed support for leadership.
  • Conduct research on best practices in research compliance to continually improve processes.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for all research community members, including administrators, finance officers, and research project managers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and usability of compliance tools, services, and training sessions.
  • Collaborate across departments involved in research, education, outreach, and program evaluation to enhance compliance efforts.
  • Oversee adherence to University information security policies and promptly report any breaches or risks.
  • Coordinate with other units to ensure efficient accomplishment of responsibilities as required.
  • Commit to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, or related fields with a solid understanding of applicable laws.
  • Have a minimum of twelve years of relevant experience in research compliance or related areas.
