Job description
Role overview
We’re looking for a practical, self-managing Machinery Operator to join Weka Machinery in Greymouth on New Zealand’s West Coast. This is a varied, hands-on position supporting farm operations across the Weka Complex, a connected group of seven farms. You’ll be operating and maintaining farm machinery, contributing to cultivation, ground preparation, feeding, topping, fertiliser work, and wider farm support as priorities shift.
The role suits someone who enjoys working independently, can move between tasks with ease, and keeps safety, animal welfare, and environmental standards at the centre of their work. You’ll be out on farms each day across several Pāmu properties in the region.
This is a drive-in, drive-out position, and there is no accommodation available.
About the employer
Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a New Zealand state-owned enterprise with more than 110 farms nationwide. Its purpose is to support innovative and sustainable agriculture for future generations. The Weka Machinery team plays an important role in keeping the wider Weka Complex running smoothly and efficiently.
What you’ll do
You’ll work with a range of tractors and implements, including a fertiliser spreader, feed-out wagon, mower, and cultivation equipment. The work is varied, practical, and important to the smooth running of the farms. You’ll need to respond to changing priorities while keeping operations safe, well organised, and productive.
What makes this role appealing
This is a close-knit team where respect, clear communication, and looking out for one another matter. The work has a genuine impact across a large farming operation while still remaining personal and team-focused.
Benefits
In return, you’ll receive a strong benefits package that supports wellbeing and career growth, including health and life insurance, enhanced parental leave, up to 4% KiwiSaver matching, an extra day of leave over Christmas, and access to training and development opportunities.
Eligibility and checks
To be considered, you must be available for an in-person interview and have unrestricted legal permission to work in New Zealand. Applicants on temporary work visas cannot be considered for this permanent role. The successful candidate will also need to pass a drug and alcohol test and a criminal background check before appointment.
