About the Organization
Agile Defense is focused on solving mission-critical problems through adaptable thinking, modern technology, and a highly flexible approach. The company emphasizes innovation, speed, and strong execution to help support important national security and civilian missions.
Role Overview
The Junior Scrum Master role is designed for someone at the beginning of their Agile career. You will help software teams stay on track with sprint routines, keep work visible, and remove basic blockers, while working under the direction of a Project Manager. The emphasis is on hands-on sprint support and delivery coordination rather than broader program oversight.
Key Duties
- Lead or support daily standups and assist with sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as directed by the Project Manager.
- Keep sprint boards current and make sure work items are properly recorded and tracked.
- Watch sprint progress closely and escalate risks, impediments, or changes in scope to the Project Manager.
- Confirm that user stories are clearly written and satisfy basic acceptance requirements before they are committed into a sprint.
- Record follow-up actions from retrospectives and check that they are completed.
- Help organize and refine the backlog and support prioritization discussions.
- Prepare and maintain delivery-related documentation, including sprint summaries and release notes.
- Encourage the team to follow Agile practices and the agreed delivery process.
Experience and Education
Candidates are typically expected to hold a bachelor’s degree and have 1 to 3 years of experience, although comparable relevant work experience may be accepted in place of formal education. The role calls for background in project coordination, technical support, or software delivery.
Required Skills and Background
- Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum frameworks.
- Hands-on familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar task and backlog tracking tools.
- Strong organization and time management abilities.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with technical teams.
- Ability to spot issues early and raise them through the proper channels.
Preferred Background
- Entry-level Scrum certification such as CSM or PSM I.
- Exposure to software development life cycle practices.
- Experience working with cross-functional groups.
- Interest in progressing toward Scrum Master, Agile Lead, or Project Manager responsibilities.
- Familiarity with regulated or security-sensitive development settings.
Work Environment
This position is associated with an office environment, though the role is remote. The clearance requirement is Secret, and the candidate must already be cleared in order to start.
