About the Company

Agile Defense focuses on solving evolving mission needs with adaptable ideas, advanced technology, and a highly agile team. Its work centers on strengthening critical national interests through fast, flexible, and innovative delivery.

Role Summary

The UI/UX Designer will create clear, user-friendly experiences for complex software products. This position blends research, interaction design, visual design, and usability methods to deliver interfaces that are practical, accessible, and easy to use.

You will partner with project leaders, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand user goals, convert requirements into design solutions, and help ensure those solutions are implemented effectively. The role contributes directly to better usability, stronger adoption, and improved product performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out user research through stakeholder conversations, workflow review, usability sessions, and feedback gathering.
  • Turn business, technical, and user needs into effective interface and experience designs.
  • Produce design deliverables such as user flows, journey maps, process diagrams, wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, and interface specifications.
  • Design experiences for desktop software, web-based products, and data-heavy systems.
  • Work with engineering teams to make sure design intent is translated accurately into the final product.
  • Join Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos, and review meetings.
  • Run usability assessments and propose improvements based on user behavior and feedback.
  • Create and sustain design patterns, standards, and reusable UI components.
  • Apply accessibility and usability principles across the full development lifecycle.
  • Communicate design ideas and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience and Education

The role generally calls for a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Equivalent work experience may be considered in place of some education, with one year of experience substituting for one year of required education.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven ability to design complete user experiences for software applications.
  • Hands-on experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, or comparable platforms.
  • Capability in user research and usability testing methods.
  • Strong grasp of interaction design, information architecture, and visual design principles.
  • Experience working with software teams in Agile environments.
  • Clear verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Electron-based desktop apps or other thick-client solutions.
  • Background designing for technical, engineering, analytics, or data-intensive products.
  • Understanding of data visualization and dashboard design.
  • Prior work in government, defense, intelligence, or other regulated settings.
  • Experience supporting disconnected, restricted, or air-gapped environments.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.

Working Conditions

This is an office-environment role, offered as remote work.
