Job description
Role overview
Join a growing IT services organisation as an internal IT Recruiter based in Auckland. The position focuses on New Zealand hiring, while also supporting recruitment needs in other locations when required. The work is close to hiring managers and senior stakeholders, and it suits someone who brings sound judgement, empathy, energy, humour, and a low-ego approach.
Recruitment in this team is highly collaborative. You will work as part of a small group that shares responsibility, supports one another, and treats hiring as a team relay rather than a solo race. You should be comfortable stepping in when priorities shift and helping move urgent roles forward without losing quality.
What the role involves
The day can start with a hiring need that has become urgent overnight. Some roles will come with a clear brief, while others will need help defining the target profile, salary expectations, technical requirements, and what success in the role really looks like. You will write and publish adverts, search directly for candidates, and help shape the message so the right people are drawn in.
As applications arrive, you will review them with care, looking beyond obvious keywords to identify real potential. The role calls for thoughtful assessment rather than guesswork, so you will evaluate motivation, compensation expectations, technical relevance, fit with the team’s values, communication skills, client-facing ability, and whether the candidate can genuinely succeed in the role as it exists in practice.
You will also work with hiring managers to help them understand the strongest candidates, keep interviews organised, manage candidate communication and offers, and challenge hiring processes early if they are unrealistic, unclear, or overly complicated.
Key duties
- Run intake discussions and refine hiring briefs with managers
- Draft and publish job advertisements
- Source and engage candidates directly
- Screen applicants for technical fit, communication, motivation, values alignment, and overall suitability
- Coordinate interview stages and keep hiring progress on track
- Handle candidate expectations, updates, and offers professionally
- Contribute ideas to improve recruitment workflows and hiring processes
- Push back early when a process or brief is unclear, unrealistic, or unnecessarily complex
Requirements
The company values solid judgement, strong organisation under pressure, clear communication, consistency, and genuine care for both candidate experience and hiring outcomes. Ownership, common sense, and the ability to work well in a team are important.
This role is based in Auckland and follows a hybrid working model. It is a full-time permanent internal recruitment position, not an agency role, and it may include hiring across New Zealand and other company locations when needed.
- Proven end-to-end recruitment experience in a busy environment with a mix of roles
- Technical understanding across MSP, IT services, and client-facing technology, enough to ask better questions and identify strong candidates beyond keywords
- Strong sourcing judgement, including knowing when to search wider, explore deeper, or recognise when the market does not have a perfect match
- Excellent candidate evaluation skills, especially when potential is not immediately obvious on paper
- Confidence building trust with hiring managers and giving practical advice on role requirements and market realities
- Empathy and warmth, combined with clear standards and reliable follow-through
- A collaborative, low-ego working style with a bias for keeping work moving
Preferred background
- Previous experience recruiting for technology roles
- Commercial judgement around pay expectations, market conditions, and candidate expectations
- Experience in internal recruitment or distributed recruitment environments
Benefits and perks
- Competitive package of up to $100k plus KiwiSaver, depending on values, skills, and experience
- Hybrid working arrangement
- Access to Uprise, including one-to-one coaching with qualified psychologists or counsellors
- Flexible work options to support work-life balance
- Flexible leave options
- 10 paid study days per year under the Never Stop Growing programme, with exam fees covered where conditions apply
- FastTrack mentoring programme
- Mentoring, support, and real opportunities for internal progression
- MAD (Making a Difference) Council focused on equality, charity, and the environment
- Regular social events and a strong team culture
About the employer
The business is a growing IT services company supporting clients across Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. It offers the structure and scale of a larger organisation while remaining people-focused and personal enough that your work will be visible and valued.
The team aims to do recruitment properly, with strong systems, supportive colleagues, and less unnecessary ceremony than is often found in the industry. The role suits someone who wants to make a real difference in hiring decisions and help uncover candidates others may overlook.
Values and working style
This position suits someone who lives the company’s values, especially curiosity. The best fit will be a person who asks better questions, challenges assumptions, notices what others miss, and helps managers see the value in candidates who may not be obvious at first glance.
The ideal person is someone who can take a priority hiring need and turn it into real progress, who understands that recruitment works best as a shared effort, and who values being useful over trying to look impressive.
Additional information
The company welcomes applications from neurodiverse candidates. Applicants are encouraged to share this at the time of application so that a neurodiversity statement can be provided, outlining flexible options to help present skills in the best possible way.
The company also notes that interested people can read more about its values on its website.
