Job description

About Metrolinx

Metrolinx connects communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe and oversees GO Transit, UP Express, and the PRESTO fare payment system. The organization is also delivering major transit growth projects, including GO Expansion, light rail routes, and significant subway extensions in Toronto, all aimed at making travel faster, easier, and more reliable. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to how Metrolinx works and delivers on its values of serving with passion, thinking ahead, and working together.

Role overview

This is a full-time, 12-month contract position based in downtown Toronto. It is an in-office role, requiring attendance five days a week, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, in-person problem-solving, relationship building, and direct partnership with leaders across the business.

The Human Resources Services Coordinator will support Metrolinx employees and people managers by delivering high-quality HR customer service. Acting as an initial contact for HR inquiries across multiple service channels, the coordinator will address questions related to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and employment legislation. The role also involves working with HR and other teams to close cases quickly and accurately while supporting a positive employee experience.

Key duties

  • Respond to employee questions received through phone lines, email, and the case management platform, and log matters in real time.
  • Monitor service requests and cases through to completion while maintaining strong customer service standards.
  • Help create, update, and maintain HR service guides and intranet resources in collaboration with the HR team.
  • Prepare, route, and complete employee documents such as new hire paperwork, transfers, leaves, benefit updates, and terminations, then send them to the appropriate internal or external parties for action.
  • Collect and coordinate employee data needed for entry into the HRMS so records remain current, complete, and accurate.
  • Take part in process reviews and improvement work by identifying issues that affect service quality, analyzing root causes, and recommending fixes that improve efficiency and the employee experience.
  • Support HR programs and initiatives tied to the strategic plan, including Organizational Development, Total Rewards, Employee and Labour Relations, and Talent Management, by sharing information, answering related questions, and tracking documents and records.

Skills and qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience.

Experience or training in human resources is needed, particularly in onboarding, benefits administration, employee lifecycle administration, and associated documentation.

Familiarity with HRMS platforms such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, Org Plus, and Workbrain is required.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, is expected.

Research ability is important for gathering information that supports policy development related to employee benefits and contract negotiations.

The role also calls for excellent interpersonal skills, clear verbal and written communication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle information accurately while meeting tight deadlines.

Experience in a unionized workplace is considered an advantage, as is experience using case management and CRM systems. A CHRP or CHRL designation would also be beneficial.

Additional information

Metrolinx encourages candidates to apply even if they do not meet every requirement. Applications are welcomed from equity-deserving communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, women, people with disabilities, and people with diverse gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations.

Accommodation

Metrolinx is committed to accessibility and inclusion and will provide accommodation during the hiring process as required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other applicable legislation. Candidates needing support during recruitment may contact the recruitment team by phone at 416-202-5601 or by email at hr.recruitment@metrolinx.com.

Application process

Applicants must be legally allowed to work in Canada. Communication for this hiring process will be sent by email, so candidates should use an active email address they check regularly and that accepts messages from unknown senders. If the organization does not receive a response, it may assume the candidate is no longer interested.

A criminal record check may be required for the selected candidate.

For internal candidates, the Internal Mobility Policy applies to non-union roles. Candidates must have been in their current role for at least 12 months and be in good standing, meaning they must not be on a Performance Improvement Plan.

If any information submitted is found to be misleading, inaccurate, or incorrect, Metrolinx may stop considering the application. Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.

The organization states that it is an equitable and inclusive employer.
