Role Overview
LaBella Associates is looking for a thorough, team-oriented Human Resources Generalist to help run day-to-day HR operations for a growing architecture and engineering organization with about 2,100 employees spread across several states. This position offers administrative and operational support across core HR areas such as onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, compliance, HR data handling, and personnel records management.
The selected candidate will be based in the Rochester, NY, Albany, NY, or Charlotte, NC office and will report to the Human Resources Director. The role suits someone who is highly organized, service-minded, and able to juggle several priorities in a busy professional services setting.
Key Responsibilities
This position supports a wide range of HR activities, including employee assistance, onboarding and separation processes, compliance tracking, employee relations coordination, and HRIS administration.
- Respond to employee questions about HR policies, procedures, and work-related matters.
- Support managers and staff with HR forms, documentation, and personnel-related processes.
- Serve as a backup resource for limited daily tasks handled by the HR Administrator.
- Protect the privacy of employee records and other sensitive HR information.
- Run the 30-, 60-, and 180-day new hire check-in process, then summarize trends and share findings with HR Business Partners and leadership when needed.
- Handle offboarding and exit procedures, including exit interviews, separation documents, system updates, and record changes.
- Prepare final communications tied to employee separations, such as last-day and termination notices.
- Oversee I-9 compliance requirements, including timely completion, reverification, audits, and document retention.
- Help track immigration-related and other required employment documents for compliance purposes.
- Coordinate unemployment claims with the vendor partner, HR Business Partners, managers, and other stakeholders, while maintaining tracking and reporting.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states.
- Maintain personnel files and HR records in line with company policy and legal standards.
- Provide coordination and administrative support for employee relations cases.
- Assist with documentation, tracking, and follow-up for performance management and corrective action matters.
- Support HR Business Partners during workplace investigations and employee issue resolution as needed.
- Keep employee data current in the HRIS and related tracking tools.
- Complete ongoing data entry, audits, and updates for personnel changes, FLSA status, pay changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Build reports and spreadsheets for HR operations and leadership requests.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Between 1 and 3 years of experience in human resources or HR administration is required.
- Experience supporting employees across multiple states is preferred.
- Background in architecture, engineering, construction, consulting, or another professional services environment is an advantage.
- Strong organizational ability, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to manage several priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving workplace.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to deal with confidential matters professionally, discreetly, and sensitively.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
- Prior experience with HRIS platforms and electronic onboarding or I-9 systems is preferred.
- A hybrid setup may be available depending on business requirements.
- Some travel to regional offices may be required from time to time.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $53,000 to $68,000 per year. The final offer may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, education, and work location.
