Job description
About the Organization
Columbus Property Management, part of Mission First Housing Group, focuses on creating and managing affordable, safe, and sustainable homes for people who need support, especially vulnerable communities. The organization also works to connect residents with resources that help them live independently and to strengthen both resident wellbeing and neighborhood outcomes over the long term.
Role Overview
The team is looking for an experienced HR professional who is hands-on, approachable, and comfortable supporting employees directly. In this role, you will contribute to hiring, employee relations, compliance, compensation, and HR programs that help both staff and the organization succeed.
Key Duties
- Act as a go-to resource for employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and day-to-day best practices.
- Own recruiting efforts from end to end, including drafting job posts, finding candidates, interviewing, and coordinating onboarding.
- Support employee relations matters such as investigations, discipline, and conflict resolution.
- Administer benefits and compensation processes and partner with payroll to help ensure pay, bonuses, and incentives are handled accurately and on time.
- Research market pay data and support salary benchmarking to keep compensation structures competitive.
- Handle unemployment claims, communicate with state agencies, and represent the organization in unemployment hearings when needed.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, complete audits, and help update policies as required.
- Support managers with performance management, coaching, and employee development efforts.
- Prepare HR reports, review data, and use findings to support decisions and organizational goals.
- Contribute to cross-functional HR initiatives and change management projects.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone with deep progressive HR experience, strong judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities.
Preferred Background
- At least 5 years of progressive human resources experience, ideally in a generalist or cross-functional role.
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations, leave administration, compensation, HR compliance, and employment law.
- Experience managing complex employee relations matters and unemployment claims.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Spanish fluency, both spoken and written, is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related subject is preferred.
- Professional HR credentials such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or an equivalent certification are preferred.
Work Environment and Other Details
- This is a hybrid position, with occasional travel between Washington, DC and Maryland properties.
- The role is classified as FLSA non-exempt and paid on an hourly basis.
- Hourly pay range: $27.08 to $38.46.
- The organization emphasizes that employees may be asked to contribute beyond their core responsibilities when needed to support overall success.
Why Join the Team
- You’ll have a chance to make a meaningful impact on employee experience and organizational performance.
- The leadership team is collaborative and supportive.
- The role offers varied HR responsibilities and room for professional growth.
- The work contributes directly to a positive workplace culture.
