About the role
This position is ideal for a dependable HR truck driver who holds a valid HR licence, has a clean driving record, and takes pride in delivering professional service at customer sites. You will be responsible for transporting scrap metal between customer locations and company yards, while also handling site-based tasks such as material identification, grading, and bin management.
The work is varied and practical, involving different locations, different materials, and day-to-day route management. A good understanding of how a yard operates and the ability to represent the business well on site are important parts of the role.
Key responsibilities
- Drive HR vehicles safely and in line with Chain of Responsibility obligations.
- Plan, organise, and adjust daily routes and runs as needed.
- Load and unload materials in a safe and efficient manner.
- Identify and grade ferrous and non-ferrous scrap; training will be provided.
- Maintain accurate and current paperwork and records.
- Manage bins at customer locations and raise any issues early.
- Act professionally when dealing with customers and representing the business on site.
What the role calls for
- A valid HR licence is essential and cannot be negotiated.
- Practical knowledge of Chain of Responsibility requirements.
- Confidence to work independently and manage your own route.
- Strong communication skills for regular customer interaction.
- Basic computer skills for route and reporting systems.
- Crane or forklift ticket is advantageous, though not mandatory.
Why join Sims
- Modern, late-model trucks and well-maintained equipment.
- Paid parental leave: 12 weeks for the primary carer and 6 weeks for the non-primary carer.
- Discounted BUPA health insurance for employees and their families.
- Confidential employee assistance counselling support.
How to approach the application
Applicants should share details of their driving background, the types of vehicles they have operated, the runs they have handled, and why they are seeking a new opportunity.
