Job description
About Baselayer
Financial organizations make high-stakes choices every day about which businesses to onboard and trust. Baselayer was built to make those decisions quicker, more accurate, and far more cost-effective. The company provides an AI-driven risk platform that automates merchant onboarding, underwriting, and fraud prevention for more than one-fifth of financial institutions in the United States. Its platform combines authoritative public-sector data, AI agents designed for web research, and a network supported by millions of applications to block large-scale merchant fraud and credit risk while instantly approving legitimate merchant applications.
About the Team
The team is intentionally small, and the problem it is tackling is enormous. Business fraud drains billions from the financial system each year, and the tools used to combat it are often slow, costly, and outdated. Baselayer is building a better approach. In this environment, ownership is meaningful, customer impact is immediate, and the work you contribute has visible results from day one. The team works thoughtfully, communicates directly, and places a high value on quality. If the idea of helping reshape trust across major financial institutions over the next few years excites you, this role may be a strong fit.
About the Role
Baselayer is seeking a Graphic Designer to define and strengthen the company’s visual presence wherever it appears. As one of the first dedicated brand designers, you will shape the look and feel of the brand across the website, product marketing, social channels, sales assets, events, and investor-facing materials. The role calls for someone who can make a technical category feel polished, credible, and visually distinctive. It is a high-ownership, hands-on position for a designer who likes setting a strong standard and delivering refined work quickly. You will work closely with marketing, product, and leadership to turn complex ideas into clear, compelling visuals that help the company stand out in a competitive, legacy-heavy market.
What You'll Do
- Apply and maintain Baselayer’s brand identity and design system so that every output feels consistent and high quality.
- Create design assets across many formats, including website pages, static visuals, infographics, campaign creative, social posts, sales presentations, one-pagers, and materials for events and investors.
- Turn technical and abstract ideas into straightforward visual communication and data-driven storytelling.
- Collaborate with marketing and leadership to support launches, campaigns, and strategic narratives.
- Build templates and reusable assets that help the team produce work more efficiently.
- Improve the overall creative standard by offering feedback and helping establish quality benchmarks.
- Handle several projects and deadlines at once while still delivering polished work quickly in a startup environment.
- Work with internal stakeholders to convert vague requests into well-defined deliverables.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in graphic design or brand design, supported by a portfolio that shows both breadth and refinement.
- Advanced proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Flora.
- Ability to produce motion work, illustrations, and/or short-form video.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and brand systems.
- Background creating assets for both digital and print channels, such as websites, social media, presentations, and marketing collateral.
- Comfort taking a project from concept through to final delivery with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use AI to streamline workflows or expand creative output.
What Sets You Apart
- Previous experience in fintech, B2B, or other technical industries.
- Experience building data visualizations and translating metrics into easy-to-understand stories.
- A proactive mindset, a strong point of view on craft, and a desire to create work with lasting value.
Work Location
This role is based in New York City.
The position is part-time and requires 20+ hours per week.
Compensation
The pay range is $40 to $50 per hour.
