Job description

About the Role

Mears Group PLC, a leading provider of repairs, maintenance, and regeneration services across the UK, is seeking a reliable General Operative to join their team in Exeter. This full-time, permanent position is crucial for supporting property clearance operations within void and responsive contracts. The role involves preparing properties efficiently and safely for subsequent repair and refurbishment works, often requiring heavy lifting and collaborative work with another operative to optimize site time.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake the clearance of household items and furniture from void and responsive properties to ready them for repair and refurbishment.
  • Assist in the safe removal and handling of substantial items, including sofas and white goods.
  • Contribute to daily clearance activities across void and responsive maintenance contracts.
  • Collaborate effectively with the clearance team to meet project timelines.
  • Maintain a consistently safe and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a general operative or labouring capacity is essential.
  • Possession of a full UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills with a professional and respectful demeanor.
  • Proficiency in using a PDA device or a willingness to acquire this skill.
  • Capability to perform manual handling and heavy lifting tasks.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety practices relevant to a work setting.
  • Must be over 21, have held a driving licence for over 3 months, and have fewer than 9 penalty points to drive a Mears vehicle.

Eligibility

Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK, as Mears Group does not currently offer visa sponsorship. All roles are subject to background, identity, and security checks. To drive a Mears vehicle, applicants must be over 21, have held their license for more than 3 months, and have fewer than 9 penalty points. Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time position with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. All roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK.
