Role Overview

The General Labour position focuses on keeping greenhouse crops healthy and harvesting vegetables that are ready for market.

Key Duties

• Carry out crop care tasks such as winding, suckering, de-leafing, lowering, and pruning.
• Pick vegetables using hand tools including shears and knives.
• Check crop condition for concerns such as disease or insect activity and alert the appropriate personnel.
• Handle produce carefully to avoid bruising or other damage while meeting quality, food safety, and packing expectations.
• Stay in regular communication with the Labour Supervisor and flag quality concerns, product damage, or shortages of produce and packaging.
• Keep the work area clean throughout the shift and report any damage or equipment issues to the proper authority.
• Follow SOPs, GMPs, food safety rules, health and safety requirements, and company policies and procedures consistently.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the company.

Required Profile

• A secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
• No prior experience is necessary, though basic familiarity with greenhouse work is an advantage.
• The ideal candidate should be self-driven and comfortable working alone as well as in a team.
• Strong performance in a busy, fast-moving setting and careful attention to detail are important.
• Must be able to work at heights of up to 15 feet.

Working Conditions

• Work hours can change based on business requirements, so flexibility is essential.
• The role involves hot and humid conditions, often between 90 and 100°F or higher depending on the season.
• There may also be occasional work in a chilled packhouse where temperatures typically range from 45 to 55°F.
• The environment can be noisy because of packing machinery and forklift activity.
• The job commonly requires standing, walking, bending, twisting, using hands to handle or feel product or packaging, reaching, and maintaining good visual focus.
• The role requires frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Work at heights of up to 15 feet is regularly required, using a platform lift or scissor lift.
