Job description
Role summary
The General Helper position is centered on preparing meals, plating and serving food, and making sure both food quality and presentation meet expected standards.
Key duties
- Prepare food for the following day’s production and portion individual meals.
- Work in line with established safety procedures at all times.
- Place food in the correct storage areas and follow wrapping, dating, rotation, and food safety rules.
- Carry out routine cleaning tasks and move waste and garbage to the proper disposal points.
- Hand out supplies, utensils, and portable equipment as needed.
- Use approved recipes and production guidelines to maintain quality, safe serving temperatures, and portion control.
- Follow all sanitation and workplace safety requirements.
- Be able to support different stations, including the meal distribution and packaging area.
- Be open to learning how to skid-wrap finished product.
- Assist with food preparation and cooking when required.
Requirements
- A valid Food Handler Certificate, or an equivalent provincial credential, is an advantage.
- Good time management and organizational ability are needed to keep up with the workload.
- The role requires the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team.
- Strong spoken and written English skills are important, along with the ability to understand instructions in both verbal and written form.
- Experience in food service within healthcare, hotels, restaurants, or fast-food settings is a plus.
- Applicants must be physically able to perform the job, including occasional lifting of up to 40 lb.
Additional information
Final pay will be set according to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. Competitive compensation is offered in line with applicable pay transparency laws, and the broader rewards package will be discussed during the hiring process. Canadian work experience is not required for this position. Artificial intelligence-based tools may be used during some stages of recruitment and screening.
