Job description
Job Summary
The Fire Crew Chief is responsible for leading a team in providing comprehensive fire protection and firefighting services. This role supports structural, aircraft, and other hazardous fire-related operations, ensuring resource protection and effective emergency response.
Principal Accountabilities
- Act as the lead crew member at a designated site, delivering high-quality resource protection and firefighting support for structural, aircraft, and other hazardous fire situations, adhering to Department of Defense (DOD), contract specifications, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.
- Execute fire suppression, rescue, and prevention tasks as directed by senior fire officers to ensure timely response and minimize potential loss of life and property.
- Maintain the operational readiness of assigned firefighting personnel, vehicles, and equipment.
- Oversee and manage fire attack, confinement, salvage, overhaul, ventilation, and rescue operations, including providing first responder care, by applying logical reasoning to identify and implement effective solutions for various situations.
- Evaluate and document the initial conditions of emergency scenes, providing essential information to supervisors for report generation.
- Guide crew members in the maintenance of firefighting equipment, the fire station, and surrounding grounds, and actively participate in these tasks.
- Address and resolve minor administrative and personnel issues, escalating more significant matters to the senior fire officer.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned to support the team's objectives.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrate fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to interpret and explain codes and plans, deliver training, and author reports.
- Possess proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications.
- Exhibit the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Experience & Education
- Possess a minimum of six years of experience in fire services.
- An associate’s degree in fire science management, emergency management, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Hold DOD, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Fighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, and HazMat Operations. Airport Fire Fighter certification is required if applicable to the assigned location.
- Possess Hazardous Materials Incident Commander Certification.
- First Responder and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) qualifications are preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Be prepared for living and working conditions that may be remote and challenging at the assignment location.
- Expect to work long hours and be exposed to weather conditions and hazardous environments.
- Personnel should be aware of the possibility of deploying on short notice and under adverse conditions.
Travel
Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
