Job description
Role overview
Join Royal Mail as a Delivery Postie with Driving based at Haywards Heath Delivery Office, RH16 1AA. This is a permanent position offering 37 hours per week across five working days between Monday and Sunday, with shifts scheduled from 06:30 to 14:30. Because of operational needs, you will also be expected to work two Sundays out of every six on a rota.
Royal Mail is evolving for the future, and this is a strong opportunity to be part of that change. The role is about more than mail delivery: it supports households, local businesses, and communities by getting important items to the right people in all weather conditions.
What the job involves
You will be out in the community delivering post and parcels, representing Royal Mail at the doorstep, and helping provide a dependable service to customers. The work is active and physically demanding, with plenty of walking and time spent outdoors, but it also helps you stay fit while making a visible difference locally.
What we are looking for
- You should be energetic, self-driven, and comfortable working on your own.
- Good organisation, reliability, and a strong commitment to customer service are important.
- A friendly manner and a natural ability to connect with people in the community will help you succeed.
- You need to be happy walking for long stretches and working outside in changing weather.
- A genuine pride in serving your community is essential.
- You must hold a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
This permanent role comes with a guaranteed hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to match your working hours.
- 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service, adjusted pro rata if you work fewer than 37 hours per week.
- Full uniform provided.
- A company pension scheme with competitive employer contribution rates.
- Opportunities to build a career, including trainee manager roles and apprenticeship schemes.
- Enhanced support for families, including maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave, and shared parental leave.
- 24/7 access to wellbeing tools and support services for you and your family, including help with physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing.
- Discounts on high street shopping, travel, attractions, beauty products, and gym membership.
- Free stamps at Christmas.
Additional information
For search purposes, roles with 35 to 37 hours per week are listed as full-time, although any position under 40 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
If you are shortlisted, the next stage will be an interview. Please keep your contact details current so the recruitment team can reach you. You may also need to review the information checklist and health matrix before applying, as these outline acceptable documents and health-related considerations for the role.
Royal Mail Group is committed to inclusion and to reflecting the communities it serves. Applications are welcomed from everyone, and there is particular encouragement for members of the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. If you need adjustments during the recruitment process, you should discuss them with your recruiter once contacted.
