Job description
Role overview
This permanent post is for a Delivery Postie with Driving based at Sidmouth Delivery Office (EX10 8TP). The role is a 37-hour week, arranged over 4 or 5 rotating days from Monday to Saturday, with shifts between 07:06 and 15:45 or 09:50 and 18:00. On Sundays, the working window is 11:00 to 18:00 at Exeter Mail Centre Distribution (EX2 7XX). Because of operational needs, weekend work on both Saturday and Sunday will be required according to the local rota.
Royal Mail describes this as an important time to join the organisation as it continues to evolve for the future. The job involves delivering for local communities in all weather conditions and being part of a service that supports households and small businesses across the nation.
What the job involves
This position is a physically active delivery role that includes walking long distances, working outdoors, and providing reliable postal and delivery service to the community. It suits someone who enjoys staying active, takes pride in helping local people, and can represent the organisation in a friendly and trusted way.
Candidate profile
Ideal applicants should be self-driven, positive, organised, and reliable, with a strong focus on punctuality and customer service. You should be comfortable interacting with the public, working independently, spending long periods on foot, and carrying out duties in varied weather. A full UK manual driving licence is required, with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
The role offers a guaranteed hourly wage of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to the hours worked. Benefits include 22.5 days of holiday that increase with service, a full uniform, a company pension with competitive contributions, career development opportunities including trainee manager and apprentice pathways, enhanced family leave support, 24/7 wellbeing resources for you and your family, a range of retail, travel, attraction, beauty and gym discounts, and free stamps at Christmas.
Additional information
For candidate search purposes, jobs with 35 to 37 hours per week are shown as full-time, but any role below 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
Applicants should keep their contact details current. If successful, the first stage of the process will be an interview. Supporting documents and health-related guidance are available during the application process. The organisation says it values inclusion and welcomes applications from all backgrounds, with especially strong encouragement for candidates from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. If adjustments are needed during recruitment, these can be discussed with the recruiter.
