Job description
Role overview
This permanent Postie role is based at Sevenoaks Delivery Office, TN13 1AA, and involves delivering mail and parcels across the local area. Royal Mail is focusing on modernising its services, and this position offers a chance to be part of that change while serving the community day to day.
Working pattern
The job is for 37 hours each week, spread over 5 days from Monday to Sunday. Shift times fall between 09:00 and 17:00, and also between 12:00 and 19:30. Because of business needs, weekend working is required.
What the job involves
You will be responsible for getting items safely to the right addresses on your route. The role includes handling election materials and some special items such as food products or alcohol, always following Royal Mail’s operating standards. This is a physically active role that requires regular walking and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
About you
The ideal candidate is positive, self-driven and able to work well on their own. You should be well organised, dependable and focused on delivering good customer service. A friendly personality, a strong sense of community and pride in your work are important. You also need to be comfortable walking for long periods and working outside whatever the weather.
A full UK manual driving licence is required, with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
You will receive an hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to your working hours. The package also includes 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service, full uniform, a company pension with competitive contributions, and opportunities to build a long-term career through trainee manager and apprentice routes. Family-friendly support is included, such as enhanced maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave. You will also have access to wellbeing support for you and your family, plus discounts on high street vouchers, travel, attractions, beauty products and gym membership. Free stamps are provided at Christmas.
Additional information
For candidate search purposes, roles advertised at between 35 and 37 hours per week are shown as full-time. However, any employment contract below 37 hours per week is classed as part-time in the contract itself.
Hiring process and inclusivity
If your application is shortlisted, the next step will be an interview with a recruiter. Applicants should make sure their contact details are current. Royal Mail Group welcomes applications from all communities and is committed to creating an inclusive recruitment process. As a Gold signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, the company particularly encourages applications from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. If you need adjustments during recruitment, you should raise this with the recruiter when they contact you.
Documents and health guidance
Candidates are asked to review the Information Checklist for acceptable documents and the Health Matrix for any health-related considerations before applying.
