Job description

Role overview

This position is for a permanent Delivery Postie with Driving based at the Oxford Delivery Office (OX1 1XX). The shift pattern covers 37 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Sunday, with working hours between 07:30 and 16:00. Because of operational needs, Sunday duty is required on a rota basis.

About the role

You will be part of the team that keeps mail moving across the local community, delivering everything from everyday letters and parcels to important items such as exam results, tax returns, wedding invitations, online orders, election materials, and certain regulated items like food products or alcohol, all in line with business standards. The work is active and hands-on, and it involves being out in all weather while helping provide a dependable service that people and businesses rely on.

What the job involves

  • Deliver items securely and accurately along your designated route.
  • Handle special categories of mail and other items in accordance with company rules and standards.
  • Work independently while maintaining a friendly and professional presence in the community.
  • Cover outdoor duties and walking for long stretches as part of the role.
  • Follow the rota, including Sunday shifts when scheduled.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate is energetic, self-driven, well organised, and reliable. You should be comfortable working on your own, arriving on time, and providing excellent service to customers. A positive attitude, strong community spirit, and confidence speaking with people are important. You must also be happy to walk for extended periods and work outdoors in changing weather conditions.

Licence requirement

A full UK manual driving licence is essential, and you must have no more than 6 penalty points.

Pay and benefits

You will receive an hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to your contracted hours. Benefits include 22.5 days of holiday, which increases with service and is adjusted for working patterns below 37 hours per week, a full uniform, a company pension with competitive contributions, career development opportunities including trainee manager roles and apprenticeship schemes, enhanced family leave support, 24/7 wellbeing resources for you and your family, retail and leisure discounts, and free Christmas stamps.

Additional information

For recruitment search purposes, roles with 35 to 37 hours per week are treated as full-time, although contracts for roles under 37 hours per week are classified as part-time. If shortlisted, the next stage will be an interview. Applicants should ensure their contact details are current and review the checklist of acceptable documents and the health-related guidance before applying. The organisation welcomes applications from all backgrounds, including members of the Armed Forces community, cadet instructors, and their spouses or partners. If you need adjustments during recruitment, these can be discussed with the recruiter.
