Job description
Role overview
This permanent delivery role is based at Dartford Delivery Office, DA1 1AA. You will be working 37 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Sunday, with shifts scheduled between 11:00 and 19:20. Working times may change depending on operational needs. Because of weekend coverage requirements, Sundays must be worked on a 3-week rotation, also between 11:00 and 19:20.
Royal Mail is focused on transforming its future, and this position offers the chance to be part of that change while serving the local community. The job is active and physical, but it also offers the satisfaction of supporting people and businesses with essential deliveries in all weather conditions.
What the role involves
As a delivery postie with driving duties, you will help make everyday deliveries happen for households and businesses across the local area. The work is community-facing, customer-oriented and hands-on, with a strong focus on reliability, trust and service.
Profile of the ideal candidate
The right person for this position is energetic, self-driven and comfortable working independently. You should be organised, dependable and able to provide friendly service to customers. A positive attitude, community spirit and pride in your work are important, along with the ability to walk for extended periods and work outdoors in changing weather.
A full UK manual driving licence is required, and you must have no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
You will receive a guaranteed hourly pay rate of £16.24, paid monthly and adjusted to reflect your working hours.
Other benefits include 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service length, and adjusted if you work fewer than 37 hours per week. You will also be provided with full uniform, access to a company pension with competitive contributions, and opportunities to build a long-term career through trainee manager positions and apprentice schemes.
Additional support includes enhanced family leave policies, round-the-clock wellbeing services for you and your family, a range of retail and lifestyle discounts, and free stamps at Christmas.
Important notes
For internal search purposes, roles with 35 to 37 weekly hours are treated as full-time. However, if the contract is under 37 hours per week, it will be classed as part-time in the employment contract.
If you are selected, the process begins with an interview invitation. You should keep your contact details current when applying. Applicants who need adjustments during recruitment can discuss these with the recruiter when contacted. The organisation also welcomes applications from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners, and is committed to inclusive hiring across all communities it serves.
Please review the information checklist for acceptable documents and the health matrix for any health-related considerations before applying.
