Job description
Role overview
We are looking for a Delivery Postie with Driving to join a local delivery team in London. This permanent position is based at the London Delivery Office, SE13 7HG, and involves delivering mail and parcels to the community while representing a trusted frontline service.
The role is built around helping customers receive important items of every kind, from personal letters and exam results to tax documents, gifts and online purchases. It is a physically active job that involves walking, working outdoors and carrying out deliveries in all weather conditions.
Working pattern
You will work 37 hours per week across 5 days from Monday to Sunday, with shifts scheduled between 07:30 and 15:30. Because of operational requirements, you will also need to work Sundays once every 4 weeks at Forest Hill Delivery Office between 12:30 and 17:30.
Please note that Royal Mail treats roles with 35 to 37 hours per week as full-time for search purposes, although jobs under 37 hours are classified as part-time in the employment contract.
What the role involves
The position focuses on securely delivering everything assigned to your route, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, in line with business standards.
What we are looking for
We are seeking someone who is energetic, dependable and comfortable working on their own initiative. You should be well organised, punctual, customer-focused and friendly in your approach to the community. The role also suits someone who enjoys long periods of walking, working outdoors and taking pride in a job well done.
A full UK manual driving licence is required, and you must have no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
The role offers a guaranteed hourly rate of £16.24, paid monthly and adjusted to your working hours. You will also receive 22.5 days of holiday, which increases with service, and this is adjusted if your weekly hours are below 37.
Other benefits include a full uniform, a company pension with competitive contribution rates, career development opportunities such as trainee manager roles and Apprentice Schemes, and enhanced family-friendly support including maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave.
You will have access to wellbeing support for yourself and your family, with free 24/7 services covering physical and mental health as well as financial and social guidance. Additional perks include discounts on high street vouchers, travel, attractions, beauty products and gym membership, plus free stamps at Christmas.
Application and inclusion
Applicants should make sure their contact details are current before submitting an application. If your application moves forward, the first stage will be an interview with a recruiter.
The employer is committed to inclusion and welcomes applications from all communities. Applications are especially encouraged from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with a recruiter if needed during the hiring process.
