About the Job
Google's Hardware Operations team is responsible for the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that powers Google's search technology. As an Operations Technician, you will be involved in installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware, including servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will also handle the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. This role may involve participating in or leading small project teams for larger installations and developing contingency plans. A typical day includes manual movement and installation of racks, which can be physically demanding, but you will be working with cutting-edge computer technology.

Responsibilities
- Deploy and manage new data center infrastructure across various projects and functions.
- Identify and report issues, following established data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward problems with equipment or infrastructure.
- Apply necessary resources to resolve identified issues.
- Maintain the security and integrity of data, tracking various media to ensure compliance with Google's security standards for data erasure.
- Disassemble end-of-life equipment through part replacement or maintenance, working collaboratively within a team.
- Perform repairs, fixes, and preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues, utilizing defined solutions with minimal guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
- Physical capability to lift and move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and sustain physical exertion over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
- Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols.
- Experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or in a similar capacity, such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician.
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively with teams to overcome challenges.
- Capacity to adapt to changes within a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to comprehend and execute frequent verbal and written instructions effectively.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
