Job description

About the role

This position is for an Installation Specialist working from a Customer Delivery Hub. The role involves delivering the John Lewis service directly to customers’ homes and fitting the items they purchase, including furniture, kitchen appliances, sound systems and televisions. You will work as part of a two-person delivery team and operate a 7.5-tonne vehicle.

Because of the nature of the job, applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Key responsibilities

  • Represent the John Lewis brand with consistently strong customer service.
  • Begin the day at the assigned delivery hub and then travel out on delivery routes.
  • Work with the warehouse team to load the vehicle with the day’s deliveries.
  • Treat customers’ homes carefully and respectfully, and handle any unexpected issues by finding the most suitable solution.
  • Install products efficiently and demonstrate how they work after installation.
  • Stay current with new products and technologies so you can perform effectively.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times.

This position includes heavy lifting and handling large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds and mattresses.

Skills and experience required

Previous installation experience is essential, and the company will support you with its own installer accreditation to build on your existing knowledge.

  • Manual UK C1 driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) or Driver Qualification Card by the first day in the role.
  • Tachograph Card.
  • Prior experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
  • Background in a customer-facing role.
  • Strong spoken communication skills, both by phone and in person.
  • Good grasp of technology.

Desirable experience

  • Installation and disconnection of white goods.
  • Television installation.
  • Assembly of flat-pack furniture.

About the company

Partners share responsibility for ownership and success, working together through both good and challenging periods while treating one another with kindness and respect. The culture encourages inclusion, individuality and collaboration.

Important information

Some roles are subject to pre-employment vetting, which may include DBS checks for successful candidates. Where this applies, information will be provided during recruitment and candidates are encouraged to complete any required vetting documents promptly to prevent delays. DBS checks, if needed, will be completed by a third-party registered body, and financial probity checks may also be required for some positions.

Vacancies may close earlier than advertised if there is a high volume of applications, so early application is recommended. If a disability means you need extra time to complete the application, you should contact the employer as soon as possible. Flexible working is supported where possible and may include flexible or compressed hours, job sharing, or shorter-hour contracts. These options can be discussed further with the hiring manager during the interview.
