Job description
About the role
Customer Delivery Drivers represent Tesco at the customer’s doorstep, visiting homes each day to deliver shopping and support a smooth, friendly service. The job goes beyond simply driving: it is a practical, active role that combines service, care, and flexibility. No two shifts are identical, and much of the work is done independently, while managers and colleagues remain available to help from the base whenever needed.
Availability window
The standard working window for this position is:
- Saturday: 13:00 to 23:00
- Sunday: 13:00 to 23:00
The role comes with a guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, although opportunities from 12 hours per week are also available.
Pay
Starting pay is £14.18 per hour. In stores located within the M25, the rate increases to £15.45 per hour. Some locations may also provide additional pay enhancements.
What you’ll do
- Keep the van, trays, and work area clean, well-organised, and ready so that every delivery arrives in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle carefully and complete all necessary checks to make sure it is safe, reliable, and fit for service.
- Explain any substitutions, order changes, or short-dated items to customers in a clear and reassuring manner, and process refunds where required.
- Handle each product with attention and care to protect quality and maintain customer confidence.
- Deliver orders within the agreed time slot and provide a friendly, natural experience at the door so customers feel valued.
What you need
- The ability to build positive working relationships and contribute to strong team morale.
- A warm, approachable manner with both customers and colleagues.
- Comfort with changing priorities and the ability to adapt quickly while out on the road and in-store.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA full or automatic driving licence held for at least 12 months, with no more than 3 penalty points.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus one personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, along with Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working options from the first day.
- 10% colleague discount through the Clubcard, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus an additional card to share with family.
- Access to free wellbeing support covering mental, physical, and general life needs.
- Life cover worth five times your pay and a pension scheme with matched contributions up to 7.5%.
- A selection of perks such as discounts, share options, and cycle-to-work schemes.
- Provided uniform and policies designed to support important life events.
