Job description
About the role
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you will be the public face of Tesco while out on the road, visiting customers at their homes each day. The job is not limited to driving; it also involves delivering excellent service and creating a positive customer experience with a friendly approach. The work is active, physically demanding, and varied, so each shift can look different. You will spend much of your day working on your own, while still having access to a supportive team of managers and colleagues at the store base.
The role pays from £14.18 per hour, increasing to £15.45 per hour in stores located within the M25. Certain locations may also include extra payments. A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, although 12-hour roles may also be offered.
Availability window
You should be available during the following times:
- Monday: 08:30 to 23:00
- Wednesday: 18:00 to 23:00
- Friday: 18:00 to 23:00
- Saturday: 18:00 to 22:00
Responsibilities
- Keep the delivery van, trays, and workspace clean, orderly, and well arranged so customers receive shopping in excellent condition.
- Load the van safely and carry out the required checks so the vehicle is ready, dependable, and roadworthy before heading out.
- Explain order substitutions, changes, or short-dated products to customers in a calm and helpful manner, and process refunds where needed to make the experience smooth.
- Handle every item carefully and deliver each order with the same level of care you would give your own shopping.
- Arrive within the customer’s allotted time slot and provide a warm, natural doorstep service that leaves customers feeling appreciated.
Requirements
- Work closely with colleagues and contribute to a strong team atmosphere that supports great customer service.
- Be approachable, polite, and welcoming to both customers and co-workers.
- Adapt quickly to changing customer needs and be comfortable with change while working on the road and in store.
- Hold a valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence for either a full or automatic vehicle for at least 12 months.
- Have no more than 3 penalty points on your driving licence.
What’s in it for you
- Holiday entitlement starts at 20 days plus one personal day, then increases to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working options are available from your first day.
- Save 10% with a Colleague Clubcard, increasing to 15% on payday weekends, and you can share a second card with family.
- Access free wellbeing support for mental, physical, and overall life balance.
- Receive life cover worth five times your pay and join an award-winning pension scheme with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
- Choose from a range of benefits such as discounts, share options, and cycle-to-work schemes.
