Job description
Overview
The Ministry of Community Safety in Saskatchewan manages the correctional system, ensuring secure custody and delivering programs aimed at reducing recidivism. Correctional Officers play a key role by supervising adult offenders, fostering accountability, and encouraging positive behavioral change while maintaining security within correctional facilities.

- Saskatoon: Saskatoon Correctional Center
- Regina: Regina Correctional Centre
- Prince Albert: Pine Grove Correctional Centre
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and security of the facility by monitoring and supervising offenders across various correctional environments.
- Collaborate in developing and executing case plans that support offenders' reintegration into society.
- Lead daily programs promoting personal growth, decision-making, and problem-solving among offenders.
- Engage empathetically with adults impacted by intergenerational trauma, special needs, gender diversity, and diverse cultural or spiritual backgrounds.
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, and procedures accurately.
- Utilize a teamwork approach to promote interdisciplinary cooperation.
- Continuously assess risks and environmental factors to make informed decisions.
- Effectively prevent, manage, and resolve incidents using appropriate intervention techniques prioritizing safety.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of the Canadian criminal justice system.
- Familiarity with human behavior principles to facilitate positive change.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification with at least 12 months remaining before expiry, needed prior to training start.
- Educational background generally includes a university degree in Social Sciences, Law Enforcement diploma, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
Physical and Training Requirements
- The standard COPAT physical evaluation is temporarily replaced by a comprehensive medical assessment performed by a licensed practitioner.
- Selected candidates will participate in a paid, 11-week Induction Training Program beginning October 5, 2026.
