Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is shared on behalf of a partner organization that oversees all applications and hiring steps. The company is hiring Community Engineers at multiple seniority levels for a remote role based in Saudi Arabia.

The position focuses on building, scaling, and improving open source communities that support widely adopted Linux-based technologies. It combines technical depth with community leadership, requiring both hands-on participation in open source ecosystems and structured program delivery.

In this role, you will connect developers, contributors, and internal engineering teams so that community work stays aligned with technical priorities. You will help create better contributor experiences by refining processes, improving communication, and strengthening collaboration across a globally distributed environment.

This is a strong fit for someone who is enthusiastic about open source, Linux, and developing healthy, high-impact developer communities.

Key responsibilities

You will lead community programs, support contributors, and help scale engagement across open source initiatives. You will also serve as a link between external contributors and internal teams, helping both sides work together effectively.

Accountabilities

  • Design, coordinate, and expand community initiatives that increase participation and engagement across open source ecosystems.
  • Serve as the connection point between contributors and the internal engineering, product, and developer relations teams to keep work aligned and efficient.
  • Remove barriers to contribution by improving workflows and helping contributors complete technical work successfully.
  • Create polished written and technical materials such as blog articles, community updates, and documentation.
  • Participate actively in open source communities through forums, chat tools, social platforms, and live events.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, meetups, and industry gatherings through presentations and speaking sessions.
  • Spot opportunities to improve contributor tooling, community operations, and large-scale engagement processes.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have a genuine interest in open source software, Linux ecosystems, and collaborative development. A public record of community involvement is important, such as GitHub activity, speaking engagements, articles, or similar work.

  • Strong enthusiasm for open source software, Linux, and collaborative software development.
  • Proven involvement in open source communities, backed by a visible public portfolio such as GitHub contributions, talks, or blog content.
  • Solid understanding of developer workflows and familiarity with tools commonly used in open source work, including version control, CI/CD, packaging, DevOps, or containers.
  • Prior exposure to Linux-based systems, with Ubuntu or comparable distributions preferred.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation abilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organization and program management capabilities, with the ability to run cross-functional work independently.
  • Comfort working autonomously in a fully remote, globally distributed setting.
  • Background in community management, developer advocacy, or software development is a strong advantage.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for in-person events and collaboration sessions.

Perks and benefits

The role includes competitive global compensation based on experience, location, and performance, along with annual bonus potential. Compensation is reviewed yearly, and the position offers a fully remote working setup with international collaboration.

  • Competitive global pay aligned to experience, location, and performance.
  • Performance-based annual bonus or commission plan.
  • Yearly salary and performance reviews.
  • Fully remote, globally distributed work environment.
  • USD 2,000 annual learning and development budget.
  • Generous annual leave, plus maternity and paternity leave policies.
  • Employee Assistance Program for wellbeing and personal support.
  • Opportunities to travel internationally for conferences, internal events, and community activities.
  • Travel benefits such as Priority Pass and upgrades for long-haul trips to company events.
  • Recognition programs that celebrate contribution and impact across the organization.
