About the role

Dynacare is hiring a Clinical Laboratory Assistant for its Core Lab team in Brampton, Ontario. This position supports laboratory operations that contribute to timely, accurate testing and downstream clinical decisions. The work is based onsite and is part of a contract full-time arrangement lasting 8 months.

What you will do

In this role, you will prepare samples and reagents for routine processing, carry out simple non-interpretive testing under the guidance of senior laboratory staff or a Medical Laboratory Technologist, and escalate issues when needed. You will also help maintain quality standards, support quality assurance activities, and perform routine upkeep of lab equipment.

  • Prepare samples and reagents for routine laboratory processing.
  • Carry out simple non-interpretive tests, with technical oversight when required.
  • Escalate complex issues or result review needs to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Check that samples are correctly labeled and identified before testing.
  • Follow established procedures for unsuitable or problematic samples.
  • Operate laboratory instruments in line with department procedures.
  • Process abnormal, critical, and STAT items according to department guidelines.
  • Track missing samples, supporting documentation, and results when necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries and issues in a professional and courteous way.
  • Maintain sufficient supplies and ensure reagents and kits are valid and used in proper order.
  • Enter results into the company database as required.
  • Perform quality control checks and apply corrections when needed.
  • Follow pre- and post-analytical quality protocols from the quality assurance manual.
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance and record all maintenance work.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, complete troubleshooting within instructions, and keep required logbooks.
  • Clean and disinfect work areas and equipment daily.
  • Store and dispose of specimens according to department procedures.

Schedule and work setting

This is an onsite role in Brampton, Ontario, at 115 Midair Court. The job includes shift work, with the following schedules listed:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday to Friday on variable days, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.; Saturday, 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.; Sunday and statutory holidays on a rotational basis, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 8:00 a.m.

What we are looking for

You should bring a laboratory-focused background, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy, team-oriented setting. The role also calls for solid communication and data handling skills.

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant certification, or graduation from an approved laboratory assistant program, or a diploma/degree in Health or Science.
  • Strong data entry accuracy and speed.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  • Good written and verbal English communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working collaboratively.

Preferred experience and knowledge

  • Familiarity with AS400 data entry systems or LIS is an asset.
  • Prior chemistry lab experience is preferred.
  • MLPAO designation is considered an advantage.

Working conditions

  • Continuous standing and walking are required, along with fine motor coordination.
  • Some lifting and carrying is required, up to 30 pounds.
  • You may be exposed to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and variable noise levels.
  • Shift work is part of the role.

The pay rate for this position is $22.00 to $24.50 per hour. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience and education.
