Cleaning Operative

Role overview

ABM UK is hiring a Cleaning Operative for its Yate Shopping Centre location in Yate, England. This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, with the exact shift pattern still to be confirmed. The pay rate is £13.45 per hour.

This position is hands-on and physically demanding. Successful applicants must be comfortable working outdoors throughout the year in a busy shopping centre environment.

What you will do

• Carry out everyday caretaking work, including picking up litter, cleaning public toilets, and keeping service yards tidy.
• Handle both indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and pressure washing.
• Keep washrooms and tenant shared areas clean and presentable.
• Patrol the shopping centre on a routine basis, emptying bins and separating general waste from recyclables correctly.
• Respond promptly to ad hoc caretaker requests.
• Support the maintenance team during busy times with tasks such as steam cleaning, gutter cleaning, weed and moss removal, painting, and setting up or taking down events.
• Work to the agreed cleaning schedules and procedures.
• Replenish cleaning materials and supplies when needed.
• Escalate any faults or damage involving cleaning equipment without delay.
• Follow health and safety rules at all times.

What is required

• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round.
• Previous experience in a cleaning operative or similar position.
• Safe handling of cleaning machinery, materials, and chemicals.
• Practical knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and equipment.
• Careful attention to detail.
• Good organisational and time-management ability.
• Comfort working alone as well as with a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
