Role overview

You will take on the top technology leadership role for an ambitious, open-source virtual world product powered by decentralized systems. Based in Germany and working fully remotely, you will set the technical direction, shape engineering practices, and help steer the growth of a next-generation multiplayer platform. The position blends executive-level leadership with hands-on technical depth across architecture, security, product delivery, and innovation.

This role is posted on behalf of a partner company, which will review applications and handle the remaining hiring steps.

What you will do

  • Set the long-term technology roadmap and make sure engineering priorities support broader product goals.
  • Guide the architecture and continued improvement of scalable systems, front-end foundations, and core technical frameworks.
  • Create and refine production-focused engineering workflows, including infrastructure, system administration, security, and operational standards.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team with a strong culture of quality, ownership, and collaboration.
  • Own engineering planning, capacity allocation, and delivery priorities to keep execution efficient and on schedule.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across functions to improve product capabilities while protecting technical excellence and performance.
  • Identify and apply emerging technologies and modern best practices across development, deployment, and platform operations.
  • Lead architecture reviews, improve code quality, and make informed technical decisions for complex engineering problems.

What the role requires

  • At least 5 years of experience in game development, including senior technical leadership or technology management responsibility.
  • Proven success in scaling engineering teams, setting up development processes, and directing technology strategy in fast-growing or early-stage settings.
  • Strong command of Three.js, React, Solidity, JavaScript, and C++, along with solid skills in software architecture and system design.
  • Good knowledge of multiplayer systems, real-time applications, distributed architectures, and current web technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure, system administration, application security, and production operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities, with the ability to mentor and motivate engineers.
  • Comfort working in a remote, globally distributed environment while balancing several technical priorities at once.
  • Experience across multiple programming languages is a plus.
  • Prior work on a custom game engine or advanced game engine development is a strong advantage.
