Job description
Role overview
Join Macquarie Capital in Auckland to build practical experience in equities research while studying at university. This cadetship sits within the New Zealand Equities Research team at Macquarie Securities, a group with 21 years of experience in the New Zealand share market. The role is designed as a part-time, fixed-term opportunity of up to 12 months, starting in March 2026, and intended to run alongside your studies.
Macquarie is a global financial services organisation active in 30 markets and backed by 57 years of continuous profitability. The company positions itself as a place where people are supported to develop a meaningful career and make a positive impact.
What you will do
You will work closely with a small team of equity research analysts who produce insights on NZ industries and listed companies. During semester time, the role offers up to 20 hours per week, with flexibility to fit around university commitments.
Day-to-day work includes assisting Senior Analysts with research tasks such as gathering data, analysing information, building financial models, drafting reports, and responding to client requests. You will also help manage internal and client-facing Excel databases, pull and format data from Bloomberg and other third-party sources, review CRM and readership metrics, and prepare weekly internal calendars covering NZX company announcements as well as major economic and regulatory updates.
You will be based alongside experienced colleagues who will support your learning as you grow into the role and develop new capabilities.
Candidate profile
Applications are open to students from any degree background who are in their second-to-last year of study, meaning they are due to complete their studies in 2027. No previous finance experience is necessary. The key requirement is a genuine interest in learning how companies, sectors, and markets work.
Eligibility
To be considered, you must be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or a New Zealand permanent resident.
