About the Role

A leading Canadian financial institution is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to join their Global Derivatives Technology team on a contract basis. The team focuses on developing and improving platforms that support OTC derivatives trading, covering trade capture, lifecycle management, and end-to-end processing for various asset classes such as rates, FX, credit, equities, and commodities. This role reports closely with trading, risk, operations, and compliance teams and involves daily collaboration with developers, quality assurance, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collecting and documenting detailed business and functional requirements including user stories, business requirements documents (BRDs), and functional requirements documents (FRDs) with clear traceability through to delivery.
  • Constructing data mappings and validating data transformations across systems, involving data investigation using SQL.
  • Supporting user acceptance testing by authoring test scenarios, defining acceptance criteria, investigating defects, and facilitating production releases.
  • Analyzing and resolving production issues while performing impact assessments and driving enhancements.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders from trading, risk, operations, compliance, and QA to maintain alignment on scope and priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Approximately 2 to 3 years experience as a Business Systems Analyst within capital markets, specifically with hands-on exposure to OTC derivatives and trade lifecycle processes.
  • Proficient with SQL and Excel for data analysis and capable of creating accurate data mappings.
  • Demonstrated experience writing detailed requirements and managing user acceptance testing end to end.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to traders and detailed mapping specifications to developers.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting frameworks such as Dodd-Frank, EMIR, MiFID II, UMR, and DTCC.
  • Knowledge of protocols and standards like FpML and FIX, as well as REST/JSON APIs.
  • Programming skills in Python and experience with Murex or Calypso platforms.
  • Exposure to Agile project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Additional Information

  • Position is a 6-month contract with a strong possibility of transitioning to full-time employment.
  • Work arrangement requires one day per week onsite in Toronto's Financial District, with the remainder of the week remote.
  • Compensation ranges from $35 to $45 per hour depending on experience.
